A CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Apple today previewed iOS 18, a major release featuring extensive customization options, the largest redesign ever of the Photos app, new inbox management tools in Mail, satellite messaging in Messages, and much more. Users can arrange apps and widgets anywhere on the Home Screen, customize Lock Screen buttons, and quickly access more controls in Control Center. Photos now automatically organizes libraries into a new single view, with helpful collections for easy access to favorites. Mail uses on-device intelligence to sort emails into categories, simplifying the inbox, and iMessage introduces new text effects.

A Using the same groundbreaking technology as existing iPhone satellite capabilities, users can now send messages over satellite in the Messages app when cellular or Wi-Fi connections aren’t available.

AiOS 18 also introduces Apple Intelligence, a personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This system combines generative models with personal context to deliver incredibly useful and relevant intelligence. Built with privacy from the ground up, Apple Intelligence is deeply integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. It leverages Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, perform actions across apps, and use personal context to simplify and speed up everyday tasks.

A New Levels of Customization and Capability

iPhone users have new ways to customize the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Control Center. They can now arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, including placing them above the dock for easy access or perfectly framing a wallpaper. App icons and widgets can adopt a new look with a dark or tinted effect, and users can enlarge them to create a perfect personalized experience.

A Control Center has undergone a redesign to provide easier access to daily tasks, along with enhanced customization and flexibility. This redesign offers quick access to new groups of frequently used controls, such as media playback, Home controls, and connectivity, with the ability to swipe between each effortlessly. Users can now integrate controls from supported third-party apps into Control Center, enabling actions like unlocking a vehicle or initiating social media content creation—all from a single location. The new controls gallery showcases the complete range of available options, allowing users to customize layout, adjust size, and create entirely new control groups to suit their preferences."

A In Apple Maps, users can explore thousands of hikes in US national parks and craft custom walking routes, accessible offline. Maps now enables saving favorite hikes, routes, and locations in a new Places Library, with space for personal notes.

A Game Mode elevates gaming experiences with smoother frame rates, particularly during extended play, and enhances responsiveness for wireless accessories like Air Pods and game controllers.

A pple Pay offers new functionalities, including redeeming rewards and accessing card installments. With Tap to Cash, users can transfer Apple Cash by simply tapping two iPhone devices together.
